Pesticides General Permit

A draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit is now available through the EPA. A complete copy of the proposed permit is available here. This permit is known as the Pesticides General Permit (PGP) and is necessary for point source applications of pesticides to waters of the US. Permits will be mandated as of April of 2011, the result of the 6th Circuit Court’s decision in National Cotton Council, et al. v EPA.

These permits will be required for all biological and chemical pesticides that leave a residue in the environment, according to EPA rule. These include chemicals used in agriculture, forestry, public health and nuisance pest control, and algae control.

Public meetings will be held around the country in Albuquerque, Boise, Boston, and Washington, D.C., beginning June 14th, and there will also be a webcast.
